Total of 77 privileged attendees (74 students from class XI and a student from class IX accompanied by two teachers) from our school departed on October 10, 2016 for 4th conference on Body, Mind and life organized by Tibetan Medical and Astro-science institute of H.H. the Dalai Lama (Tibetan Men-tsee-khang). It was scheduled from October 12 to 14, 2016. This year’s topic was ‘Causes and Conditions of Depression’. This rare and worthwhile opportunity had been the best platform to engage and connect our students with scholars of traditional Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, medicine and astro-science in addition to the experts of modern psychologists. The conference was found to be most relevant gateway to inculcate, experience and expose our students to the rich traditional and modern psychology. Many of them experienced it as fruitful and experiential. Additionally, students got opportunity to visit the pharmaceutical department and museum of Men-Tsee-Khang, and their own places of interest. Moreover, the opportunity to showcase talents and share experiences by our students to the students of TCV School Lower Dharamsala was another fantabulous experience.
In terms of accommodation and necessary facilities for students, there were grand arrangements by TCV School Lower Dharamsala. Anyhow, every participant from our school enjoyed being part of the conference and got opportunity to interact with experts, participants and staffs of the institute. In nut shell the conference bridges gap between students’s learning in school with professionals and different communities, particularly with Men-tsee-khang.
All these were possible with funds raised by the determined and dedicated students during weekends through various events like holding concert in school, selling nutritious food items prepared by students themselves, screening moralistic movies, etc with no financial burden on school. All the participants reached our school safely on 9th year celebration of US Congressional gold medal presentation to H.H the great XIV Dalai Lama-Tenzin Gyatso.
